Athletics PNG President Tony Green thanked NSI through Director Janet Gimots for hosting the athletes for the weekend and for their continued support of Athletics Programmes.
Toako and Gahekave both returned from the USA last year after completing their University studies and were inducted into the Team PNG Hero Programme in November. Toako presented a session on nutrition whereas Gahekave covered gender based violence and the matter of roles and responsibilities. NSI staff Kylie Martens and Director Gimots also took the opportunity to deliver an Anti Doping awareness session.
The Team PNG HERO Programme is the PNG Olympic Committee’s athlete ambassador programme and provides an opportunity to develop athletes into leaders in their sport and communities. The term ‘HERO’ reflects PNGOC’s core values of Honesty, Excellence, Respect and Openness. Athletics
